An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a PC and serves as the intermediary between all the applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it sends requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, web servers also feature an Operating System that acts as a host for any software installed on them, which includes script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you will be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs available and we offer all 3 rather than just 1 because we realize that you might want to set up some software which has specific requirements for the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there're different software packages you may install on the hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you want to use one and for this reason we offer multiple Control Panels as well. Should you decide that you need to have another OS, our technical support can quickly wipe the present one and set up the one that you want. We also offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated servers we offer come with three different Operating Systems since we want to give you more versatile plans that will allow you to install and run any kind of web software regardless of its system requirements. The options are CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu and these three OSs are among the most dependable and safe ones, not mentioning that they do not have any license costs. All three have numerous developers that have created a large number of software packages that you'll be able to install and use on your web hosting server. We also offer three internet hosting Control Panels and which one you can use will depend on the Operating System that you select when you register. In case you need another OS subsequently, it will not be a problem because we can always reinstall your machine. With our Managed Services package we can also keep your OS secure by upgrading it on a weekly basis with any patches which are available for it.
